The Department of Commerce was started in 2007. The Department aims at maintaining academic excellence and equipping students with the skills necessary to face the challenges of the business world. The primary objective of the Department is to impart quality education with an innovative curriculum and state-of-the-art facilities. The UG programme assures professional education of immense value by equipping the students with adequate knowledge in various facets of commerce so as to enable them to emerge as business leaders.

The Department grew into a Post Graduate Department in 2017 in order to equip the students for the teaching profession and research programmes are enable them to face the challenges of the corporate sector and occupy administrative positions. The programme provides an in-depth knowledge in the key areas of accounting, finance, research and taxation. As a value addition, students are given opportunity to undergo one month internship training to gain experience in the corporate sector.

The Department has signed MoU with Tally Academy, Mumbai to offer Tally Programs such as Tally ERP Professional Certificate Program and Accounting Executive Certificate Program.

The Department has various students’ clubs such as Citizen Consumer Club, Red Ribbon Club and Postal Savings Club to nurture the innate talents of the students so as to make them dexterous in business decision making and responsible corporate citizens of the country. The Department of Commerce and the Department of Business Administration jointly organized Two International Conferences in collaboration with Gondar University, Ethiopia. Seminars, Workshops and Invited Lectures were also organized by the Department as integral part of the Teaching-Learning process. Trade Fair, Projects, Internships, Exhibitions and Industrial Visits were organized to provide a practical exposure to the students learning environment.
